Award: CeP (2018)
I have been an Academic Skills advisor at the University of Birmingham since 2013, when our Academic Skills Centre was first introduced. I work with undergraduate and postgraduate taught students on all aspects of academic writing and study skills more broadly. I have been instrumental in managing our open skills programme and am heavily involved in writing and delivering bespoke lectures and workshops for a range of schools and departments across the university, as well as coordinating our online resources and interactive learning materials. My particular interests lie in the fields of critical thinking and argumentation, and how students can develop these skills to produce logically coherent essays and dissertations.
How can I support Learning Developers?
I am interested in the evolving role of the Learning Developer in Higher Education and how universities perceive and recognise those working in the field. I would be keen to support others through the discussion and implementation of continuing professional development and best practice.
