Biography

My role at Manchester Metropolitan University is Academic and Study Skills tutor (or Learning Developer as it’s often called in other HE institutions). I’m supporting students with developing the academic skills they need to learn, do well and be well in an academic environment.

My interests are all about how do humans learn, how can I support someone to learn, what are the limitations in the way we understand learning and create the conditions for it ; what skills should we encourage students to develop and why.

Some of the key topics that are very important to me and fuel my motivation are decolonising the curriculum, examining academic conventions including Academic English, seeing how sustainability skills and academic skills overlap, and understanding better the limitations of the current Western views on learning. I reckon mindfulness has a lot to offer to help me understand these issues and inform the way I teach and support students.
