Conference Themes
The 2025 conference will present an overarching theme, accompanied by four distinct sub-themes, outlined below. Proposals must be explicitly aligned with one or more of these sub-themes to ensure coherence and relevance.
Main Theme: Currency, Creativity, and Innovation in Learning Development
Key Question: How can Learning Development (LD) meet the evolving needs of our students through creative and innovative approaches to enhancing their learning experience?
Sub-theme 1: LD Across Disciplinary Boundaries
- Key Question: How are LDers leading, supporting, and cultivating new collaborations across disciplines to address complex problems and prepare students to engage actively and critically in current and future social, political, and professional contexts?
Sub-theme 2: LDers and Inclusive LD
- Key Question: How are LDers shaping and informing the design of new curricula, content, and resources to ensure accessibility, equity, and inclusivity?
Sub-theme 3: The Role(s) of Evidence in Developing LD Practice
- Key Question: How are LDers evolving their practice in response to relevant evidence? What different types of evidence are LDers actively producing, and how is this supporting change and innovation?
Sub-theme 4: Artificial Intelligence (AI), Emerging Technologies, and Their Implications for LD
Key Question: How are LDers engaging creatively and critically with AI and other emerging technologies to support student learning?
As always, in addition to lots of lively discussion, practice-sharing and networking, the conference will offer plenty of valuable CPD opportunities, opportunities to learn more about ALDinHE, and the chance to get more involved with the exciting and valuable work of the Association.

Proposal Mentoring
If you haven’t presented at the ALDinHE conference before, you can request a mentor to guide you through the submission and preparation processes.* A mentor can support you in the following areas:
Preparing a proposal
- Discussing the format of previous ALDinHE conference sessions.
- Talking through your ideas for a submission.
- Offering informal feedback on an abstract draft.
- Discussing how to approach any requested revisions.
Preparing your session
- Providing feedback on draft slides.
- Watching a practice run of your session online and giving you feedback.
- Technical aspects of poster preparation.
The deadline to request a proposal mentor is Friday 29 November 2024 by 5 pm (UK time). This will give us enough time to ensure we can find you a suitable mentor and that your mentor can help you with your proposal.
*Please note that a conference mentor does not guarantee that a submission will be accepted. If you would like to request a mentor, please contact admin@aldinhe.ac.uk.
