The Research and Scholarship Development working group is rapidly expanding its work to foster scholarship opportunities for members of the ALDinHE community. Whether you are interested in a helping hand to get your own scholarship project off the ground, or joining in our work to support others to do so, there is an Event for you at the July Fair.
Please explore the opportunities below to find out about our Chair/Vice-Chair drop-in, Writing Retreat Taster and Reviewer Training events.

Would you like to do one or some of:
– Suggest and discuss ways in which ALDinHE can boost knowledge of and opportunities for scholarship among its members?
– Find out how we can support you to turn your research or scholarship idea into reality?
– Get involved in supporting others to carry out scholarship and research?
– Review grant applications for ALDinHE? (new reviewers needed, training and support provided)
For these and any other ideas/questions, you have the opportunity to drop in and meet the group chair (Ian Johnson) and vice-chair (Silvina Bishopp-Martin) on Tuesday 1st July, 11.00-12.00.
Please book a free ticket to attend. The room link is contained within the ticket that will be emailed to you and is available to view from your online account.
Each year, ALDinHE funds several research projects investigating aspects of Learning Development’s theory, pedagogy and practice, and ways that we, as learning developers, can enhance students’ experiences.
The process of winning these funds is competitive and we rely on our pool of reviewers to help make the decisions. This year, we are looking to add more reviewers to the pool (if interested, please join the drop-in session for 1st July advertised on the summer fair homepage, or email ian.johnson@port.ac.uk)
Although some previous reviewing experience is helpful, it is not essential as we offer full training on our review process, and can buddy you up with an experienced reviewer.
Please join us on Monday 21st July from 1.30-2.30pm for a training session to get you clued up on what we’re looking for in grant applications, and feeling review-ready. Please book a free ticket to attend. The room link is contained within the ticket that will be emailed to you and is available to view from your online account.
Really want to get some writing done?
Struggling to find the time or headspace?
Join the Research and Scholarship Group Online Writing Retreats!
We know how easy it is for writing to slip down the priority list amidst teaching, supporting students and everything else.
That’s why our writing retreats offer structured, focused time to make real progress on any writing project – whether it’s a blog post, an application, a journal article, a funding bid, or simply an initial idea or anything else you’d like to develop. All are welcome.
You’ll be part of a supportive, energising community of peers who understand the challenges and joys of writing in Learning Development. Previous participants have left with renewed motivation … and many have kickstarted or even completed long-delayed projects.
Curious but unsure? Come along to our taster session (22nd July, 10-11.30) to find out how these retreats work and how it can benefit you. Or, join a full 5-hour retreat (ample breaks will be included!) on 7th August, 9.30-2.30pm.
The room link is contained within the ticket that will be emailed to you when you book and is available to view from your online account.
For more information contact Bernard Aidoo (b.aidoo@londonmet.ac.uk), Steve Rooney (s.rooney@aston.ac.uk) and/or Ian Johnson (ian.johnson@port.ac.uk), or for details of forthcoming retreats please check the Events section of the ALDinHE website.
Let’s get writing together!
