A dash of creativity, a pinch of community, a splash of silliness: have fun out there, ALDconners!
Instructions (if you’re into that sort of thing)
So you want to play Taskmaster: ALDcon Edition? Great. I love that for you. The rules are pretty simple.
- You can complete up to 5 tasks, the aims of which are laid out on this page.
- Each task will be scored individually, with points awarded to the judges’ three favourite submissions per task.
- The player with the highest cumulative point total will win Raghda’s golden head.
- You can upload tasks throughout the conference, with a deadline of 13:45 on Day 2 (Wednesday 17th June) to be eligible for judging.
Task #1: Permission granted to play with your food
- Using the conference buffet dinner (or other foodstuffs), create a portrait or sculpture of a fellow ALDcon attendee.
- Judging: The most convincing likeness wins.

Task #2: Mind the gap between reactions and realities
- Create a scene in which the reactions really don’t match what’s happening.
- Your scene must take place on Leeds campus and involve one or more ALDcon attendees.
- Judging: The funniest mismatch of reaction(s) vs. reality wins.

Task #3: ‘Oh I could do that with my eyes closed!’
- Take a few minutes to study any piece of art or architecture on Leeds campus.
- Now close your eyes and attempt to draw what you studied: no peeking!
- You may ask a fellow ALDcon attendee for verbal guidance and pen/marker swaps throughout the task, but your own eyes must remain shut—honor system!
- Judging: The most accurate eyes-shut recreation wins.

Task #4: ‘Are you looking at me?!’
- Take a mindful moment to look at your surroundings: are they…looking back?
- For this challenge, snap a whimsical photo of a ‘face’ that isn’t actually a face.
- Judging: The most whimsical face-that-isn’t-really-a-face wins.

Task #5: Follow the Leed-ing lines
- Whilst out and about in Leeds, take a photo that uses the compositional technique of leading lines (or…Leed-ing lines) to showcase our host city.
- Bonus point (+1) for including multiple ALDcon attendees in your composition.
- Judging: The most interesting deployment of Leed-ing lines wins.

FAQs
Do I have to complete all the tasks?
- Nope! Do as many or as few as you’d like (though submitting more tasks will improve your chance of winning because…numbers).
How do I send in my task photos?
- I guess you skipped the instructions, huh? What a renegade. Sigh. Please upload your tasks to this Padlet, where you’ll find a column for each task.
Can I complete a single task multiple times?
- If every attempt was funny…well, why not? Go for it! The world needs more laughs! You can only earn points once per task, though.
What’s the deadline again, and when can I claim Raghda’s head?
- Presumptuous, aren’t you? I dig it. Go for the gold, you rascal, you. Submissions must be on the Padlet by 13:45 on Wednesday 17th.
- The top submissions will be shared, and the winner announced, during the conference closing session at 15:00.
