ALDinHE 2023: The Learning Development Conference
University of Portsmouth
9 & 13-14 June 2023

Join us for three days of stimulating discussion and inspiring sessions!
This year, we’ll be running the conference both virtually and physically.
Our online day will be Friday, 9 June 2023, and our in-person days will be Tuesday and Wednesday, 13-14 June 2023 in Portsmouth*.
*If we are unable to hold the physical conference, we will run it virtually across the same three days.
We have three broad conference strands and your proposal will need to align with at least one:
- The impact of Learning Development on transformation and transitions into, through, and out of HE.
- The impact of Learning Development on equality, diversity and inclusion for individuals, HE, and society.
- The impact of Learning Development on sense of belonging and its value to students, staff and Higher Education.
In this case, ‘impact’ does not exclusively mean data or metrics, but can include value, levels of engagement and all potential definitions of impact relevant to what you are presenting.
The conference will offer plenty of CPD opportunities, including research development, CeP/CeLP guidance, opportunities to learn more about ALDinHE’s work, and the chance to get involved with a working group and/or a community of practice.
The Call for Papers for the 2023 conference has now closed.
If you missed the proposal submission deadline and are still interested in presenting your work to the Learning Development community, we encourage you to consider running an LD@3 webinar. To enquire about delivering and LD@3 session, please contact the Events Working Group co-chairs, Maddy Mossman or Alistair Morey.

This year, support for conference attendance will operate on a tiered basis for a maximum of eight tickets.
Round 1 – Ring-fenced for ALDinHE Working Group Co-chairs
Request by email to: admin@aldinhe.ac.uk
Funding available: conference fees.
To be approved by the ALDinHE Steering Group
Round 2– Open to LD Community via LDHEN with priority for individuals who can demonstrate engagement with ALDinHE
Request by application: ALDinHE Conference Fund Application Form
Round 3 – ALDinHE Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Funding Opportunity for conference attendance
ALDinHE recognises that certain minority groups are under-represented in Higher Education (HE) employment or face barriers to progression in their HE careers through lack of opportunities. To address this and to encourage diversity within the conference space, applications are now open for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) funding opportunities to support attendance and presentation at the ALDinHE 2023: The Learning Development Conference (ALDcon23) in June 2023. We actively welcome applications from black and minority ethnic heritage communities, delegates with disabilities and the LGBTQIA+ community.
Funding will cover the cost of registration to the event only per proposal. Travel and accommodation costs, and any additional sundries will not be covered.
Criteria for round 3:
Applicants must have an accepted proposal for ALDcon23 taking place on 9th and 13th-14th June 2023.
Accepted proposals can be for the virtual day on 9th June and/or in person on 13th-14th June at the University of Portsmouth.
Joint or multiple authored proposals will be treated as a single submission. Applications should be made by the lead author, with at least one member of the presenting team identifying as being from one or more of the under-represented groups listed above.
Request by application: ALDinHE Conference Fund Application Form
Round 4 – Fixed-term contract staff ring funding:
This category includes staff working on fixed-term contracts with institutions that will not fund them to attend the conference and to independent contract staff. Independent contractors or fixed-term staff working for institutions who are not members must be individual ALDinHE members. Applicants must be presenting at the conference in order to receive funding for their ticket.
Request by application: ALDinHE Conference Fund Application Form
Delegates may apply formally using the Request by application: ALDinHE Conference Fund Application Form, and places are allocated upon successful application by the two Association Co-Chairs and two members of the Steering Group.
Indicative criteria:
Being a member of the Association, either Non-Institutional or through an Institutional member.
Having a workshop or paper accepted for this conference AND/OR contributing to ALDinHE through active involvement in a Working Group, hosting an event, contributing to the journal, or substantially contributing to LDHEN.
Applications will be accepted from registration opening until 15th May 2023.
All decisions are final.
