ALDinHE 2023: The Learning Development Conference

University of Portsmouth

9 & 13-14 June 2023

Join us for three days of stimulating discussion and inspiring sessions!

This year, we’ll be running the conference both virtually and physically.

Our online day will be Friday, 9 June 2023, and our in-person days will be Tuesday and Wednesday, 13-14 June 2023 in Portsmouth*.

*If we are unable to hold the physical conference, we will run it virtually across the same three days.

We have three broad conference strands and your proposal will need to align with at least one:

  • The impact of Learning Development on transformation and transitions into, through, and out of HE.
  • The impact of Learning Development on equality, diversity and inclusion for individuals, HE, and society.
  • The impact of Learning Development on sense of belonging and its value to students, staff and Higher Education.

In this case, ‘impact’ does not exclusively mean data or metrics, but can include value, levels of engagement and all potential definitions of impact relevant to what you are presenting.

The conference will offer plenty of CPD opportunities, including research development, CeP/CeLP guidance, opportunities to learn more about ALDinHE’s work, and the chance to get involved with a working group and/or a community of practice.

The deadline for proposal submission is:

Monday 16 January 2023 by 5pm (UK time).

Please read the guidelines below and submit your proposal here.

You may choose to submit a proposal for a:

  • 60-minute workshop
  • 20-minute paper presentation
  • 5-minute lightning talk
  • Poster
  • Resource showcase
  • Practitioner mini-keynote
  • Wild Card

On our conference website, you can find details for all conference proposals and a timeline for important deadlines.

Proposal mentoring

If you haven’t presented at the ALDinHE conference before, you can request a mentor to guide you through the submission* process and preparation processes. A mentor could support you in terms of:

Preparing a proposal

1) Discussing the format of previous ALDinHE conference sessions.

2) Talking through your ideas for a submission.

3) Offering informal feedback on an abstract draft

4) Discussing how to approach any requested revisions

Preparing your session

1) Providing feedback on draft slides

2) Watching a practice run of your session online and giving you feedback

3) Technical aspects of poster preparation

The deadline to request a proposal mentor is Wednesday, 30 November 2022 by 5pm (UK time). This will give us enough time to ensure we can find you a suitable mentor and that your mentor can help you with your proposal.

*Please note that a conference mentor does not guarantee that a submission will be accepted.

The ALDinHE conference is a supportive and welcoming environment that promotes creative collaboration between learning developers and is always popular, with a regular attendance of around 200 delegates from the UK and beyond.

We look forward to receiving your proposals.
