The Essay Route Map: Helping students to navigate their academic writing

Biography

Angela Kilpatrick is a Lecturer in Learning Development at the University of Lancashire (formerly the University of Central Lancashire), with over 17 years experience in HE, and supports staff and students in developing academic skills through co-creation of bespoke workshops and resources. In collaboration with Subject Librarians, she spearheaded the Essay Route Map, a university-wide initiative designed to assist students with essay writing. Diagnosed with dyslexia in adulthood, Angela brings both empathy and advocacy to her work, championing inclusive learning practices. In 2022, she founded the Neurodivergent Staff Network, where she serves as Co-Chair, working to enhance institutional support and awareness for neurodivergent staff and students.
