Critical Thinking: Introduction and Activity

Media Type: Slides
Resource Duration: 45 minutes
Number of downloads: 109

These Powerpoint slides contain a brief but useful exercise in engaging students in critical thinking – and then unpacking the process and finding the parallels with academic work (and professional practice for nursingn students). I have also included some of the surrounding slides that I use for unpacking the process. The notes include details from a script that I wrote for this session when I needed to deliver it as a large webinar session during the second Covid lockdown; however, a more flexible approach is needed in a face to face session. This activity also works well in 1:1 tutorials and smaller workshops/Zoom meeting sessions.

Please note that some of the content is specific to Nursing programmes and attempts to find links/join the dots between academic and professional skills. You will need to remove placement-specific PAD content if this doesn’t apply to your programmes.

I recently downloaded a set of materials on Critical Thinking from the ALDinHE website, and I must say that they have been invaluable in enhancing my teaching on the course. I recommend these materials to anyone interested in developing their critical thinking skills.
