Biography

I am an academic skills advisor at Sheffield Hallam University, where we deliver academic skills workshops, writing forums and tutorials from a central team based in the library. I lead the newly-created Undergraduate Research Network at the university, which provides opportunities for undergraduate students to develop their research skills and provides a platform for students to share their research more widely, including an annual Poster Showcase event (go.shu.ac.uk/ugresearch). If I had to choose a favourite workshop from our programme, it would be Literature Reviews – I get a real buzz from debunking reading, synthesis and academic writing with students!

How can I help learning developers?

As an early-career LDer, I would love to hear from others who are passionate in their new roles and interested in creating a forum for supportive conversation and career development. I’d love to work with LDers from other institutions to share best practice and draw together work around supporting students to develop their research skills, particularly for those students working in vocational or placement-based areas. I’m also really keen to help build the profile of LDers through social media and digital resources, creating blogs, interactive online content, podcasts, videos and more!
