Biography

Barbara Nicolls is a Learning Developer/Senior Lecturer at the Learning Development Unit at Buckinghamshire New University. With a strong background in EFL/ESL/ESP and a passion for technology-enhanced learning for reflective practice, student engagement with learning and life-long learning, Barbara has adopted a learner and learning-centered approaches in her current role as a LD. Barbara defines learning as “change” in attitude, behaviour and thinking and employs the flipped, blended learning strategies to be inclusive by which she means learners who are on diverse modes of study programmes.
Barbara is Bucks’ pioneer for introducing the free, learner-owned, institution-independent digital portfolio. She has showcased student outcomes at international eportfolio conferences and in national and international publications.
A Bucks Fellow 2015, Barbara is also a SFHEA and National Teaching Fellow 2018 acknowledging her outstanding impact on student outcomes and the teaching profession in higher education.


How can I help learning developers?

I am happy to lead/collaborate on cross institutional research projects and jointly present at ALDinHE conferences.
I can share my experiences of implementing eportfolio projects via webinars, embedding eportfolios in curricula, train the trainers.
