Co-Chair of the Communications Coordination Group
I manage the Study Advice team at the University of Reading and have been developing students’ academic skills since 2006. I support all students (from foundation to PhD) across all disciplines to develop the academic skills needed to be successful at university. From an institutional perspective, I sit on various University committees and working groups to promote effective skills development, consult on academic guidance for students and design resources to meet students’ needs. I have recently been a student too, having completed my Doctorate in Education in 2019; so, I have recent first-hand knowledge of the challenges of juggling studying and other commitments, alongside battling issues of procrastination and motivation. My thesis investigated the impact of self-efficacy for writing and locus of control on Foundation degree students, and I have a research interest in widening participation, writing and confidence. I have also completed research into group work and supporting students to navigate this increasingly popular form of assessment.
