    January 2023 meeting summary

A quick report from our January activity. We had a fascinating discussion on Collaborative Reading led by a community member. Lots of interesting things came from it including: discovering new reading techniques, discussion of academic reading circles, text mapping, jigsaw reading and scrolling, the anatomy of a journal, the need for a vocabulary lists for words commonly found in health journal articles, using critical appraisal tools from health care to assist students critical reading. ***There are lots of ideas that can be incorporated into practice. *** This month’s activity is making space for us to think about things that make us go hmmmm…. as we are exploring those ideas or initiatives that give rise to conflicted or ambivalent thoughts and feelings. *** If you are interested in actively participating in an online asynchronous Community of Practice for Learning Developers with an interest in Health care students please send me a message. We would love to hear from you.

    June 2023 meeting summary

We have been discussing the value of clinical placements. The CoP presented at ALDcon23 and we had four people express an interest in joining. The talk focuses on the theory of communities of practice and where the LDHealth COP is in relation to it. It also included voices from the wider COP. The June Activity was on Neurodiversity and yielded some great results. We are also working on a proposal for further development which includes developing longer term projects and short term contacts and asking for volunteers to share the organisational load.
