Biography

Ian is committed to research and dissemination about Learning Development and Learning Developers, including their framing, value, professional practice and identity. This is reflected in a doctoral thesis and several recent related articles and chapters. Within ALDinHE, Ian advocates for LD scholarship through chairing the Research and Scholarship Development Working Group, and Steering Group membership. He previously launched and the Research Community of Practice for newer and early career LD scholars. Ian is also interested in student centric and playful pedagogies, and effective assessment and feedback methods.

How can I help learning developers?

Ian’s mission within ALDinHE is to help widen and deepen the scholarship base into the praxis of Learning Development, led by practitioners in the field. He is therefore happy to help ALDinHE community members at any stage of research or scholarly initiatives. This could range from advice around where to start or ideas generation, to designing and carrying out research projects, to support with publication and dissemination. Mindful of the challenges that many in the field may face in these areas, no question is too small or ‘silly’!
