Biography

I have been Solent’s Instructional Design Manager since 2016, and my main responsibility is for developing the VLE as an inclusive and interactive teaching space. I oversee our online learning skills resource, Succeed@Solent, lead on accessibility issues, and support colleagues with Fellowship applications. Prior to that I was the learning skills tutor for 5 years, when I developed research interests in emotion and play. I am now in my fifth year as Co-Chair of ALDinHE, which has taught me a lot about leadership and management. I am also a relatively successful playwright!

I have a lot of experience in helping people draw out evidence when making claims for professional recognition, and enjoy helping writers find the narrative structure in a piece of text that brings their writing to life. My leadership and management experience has all been drawn from life so I can help others avoid my mistakes and hopefully plenty of their own. I’ve picked up a lot of experience in events management too. In terms of research, I’m always keen to talk about identity (professional or otherwise), emotion, writing approaches and constructivist pedagogies.
