Events Group

The Events group are responsible for helping to build learning developer networks across the UK through the hosting of regional and online events. Members support an Event Host Institution to coordinate and plan either a face-to-face or online event which encourages knowledge sharing and practice on topics relevant to the LD community.

Alistair Morey

Steering Group Member
Co-chair of the Events Group

Alistair joined the steering group member in 2020 as co-lead for Events, after having been previously a member of the LearnHigher, Regional Events and Research Funding working groups. He has worked in learning development for 12 years, following previous higher education roles teaching history and politics and in educational research. He is currently Head of Skills Development at King’s College, London.
His particular focus is on the intersection between learning development and academic/educational development.

Maddy Mossman

Steering Group Member
Co-chair of the Events Group

Maddy has been a steering group member since 2020. She has coordinated the ALDinHE regional events since 2017. Maddy has worked in higher education for over eighteen years, predominantly in teaching, widening participation and learning development roles. She moved to take up her current position as Learning Services Manager at the University of Leeds in February 2018.
Her particular interests are the pedagogy of academic literacies, particularly academic writing, and the coordination and collaboration opportunities for student support services in large institutions.


Robert Ping-Nan Chang

Robert joined the Events Working Group in 2020. He was an EFL instructor for several years before moving into LD in 2017. He is a Learning Development Tutor at the University for the Creative Arts (Epsom campus), and a Learning Skills Visiting Lecturer at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. He is a Fellow of HEA, with EdD in TESOL (Queen’s University Belfast), MA in Applied Linguistics (University of Essex), CertICT (English UK) and CertIBET (Trinity College London). His pedagogical and research interests lie in discourse analysis, English for academic purposes, and learning technologies.

Amy Allhouse

Amy Allhouse started working in Learning Development at the University of Bradford in 2010. She has led on various initiatives in supporting students such as the first national scheme of Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) for Executive MBA Programmes, she has run an Academic Transition Programme for international students, and received the Vice Chancellor’s Outstanding Achievement Award in 2019 (UoB). Prior to HE, she worked in corporate finance in Taiwan, and led several underwriter syndicate investment projects.

Amy is an ALDinHE Certified Practitioner, a Fellow of the HEA, with a Master in Business Administration. She joined the ALDinHE Events working group in 2020 to gain new perspectives on different practices. Her areas of interest in LD include: transition into UK HE, critical thinking and writing, assessment literacy, and LD in Executive Education.


Sandie Donnelly

Sandie joined the Events Working Group in 2020, after working with Maddy as part of the original ALDinHE regional events group. Sandie has worked in university library and student support services for 8 years and is the Academic Skills Manager at the University of Cumbria overseeing library, academic and digital skills for students. Working in a university with a portfolio of mostly professional courses, Sandie is interested in supporting students to develop and celebrate their academic voice as part of their identity as critically reflective practitioners. She is an Advance HE Fellow and a qualified teacher.
