Please do join us on Thursday 18th July, 12pm-1pm for a session by Sami Safadi (University of Salford) on Exploring decolonising as reflexive practice in HE.
The current approaches to decolonising in HE often focuses on the content, diversification, and globalisation. However, globalisation and diversification are not decolonising, and the content is only one aspect. Decolonising through and as reflexive practice offers a way for academic staff to re-centre themselves in their discipline and wider HE, to consider their positionality and relationship to both their discipline and their students. I’ll talk further about what this means, how we go about it, and why this is a route to equity in outcomes and experience in HE. I’ll also give a quick overview of some other work we’re doing around belonging and empowerment and how that ties to decolonising.
