This activity is designed to help students to develop conversation styles and techniques based on effective use of questioning styles; and to appreciate the impact of body language.

The students are given a number 1, 2 or 3; the 1s and 2s sit together in pairs. The 1s and 2s are told that they are to find out as much as they can about each other and will be asked to introduce their partner to the group. Number 3s are taken outside and told that they are to observe a pair and make note of positive and negative behaviours relating to the questioning technique and body language of the 1s and 2s.

This activity is designed to be used in a workshop relating to listening and interpersonal skills, particularly relating to active listening, establishing and maintaining conversations and the impact of body language. It is helpful to have a break-out room and a facilitator to assist with taking out the number 3s to explain their role whilst the tutor given instructions to the number 1s and 2s.
