LoveLD Magazine Issue 4

Dear LD Community,

A bumper 122-page issue 4 of the LoveLD magazine is out now. Thank you to everyone who has contributed.

Our cover feature is an invitation for you to apply for professional recognition and be recognised as a Certified Practitioner in Learning Development (CeP) or a Certified Leading Practitioner in Learning Development (CeLP). In this issue, Helen Briscoe (Edge Hill University) shares useful reflections on achieving CeP. Daisy Abbott (The Glasgow School of Art) and Claire Olson (Edge Hill University) share their experiences of being awarded CeLP. Victoria Yuskaitis and Alison Daniell share how the Enhancement team at the University of Southampton approach professional development through accreditation with ALDinHE.

Alicja Syska (University of Plymouth) and Carina Buckley (Solent University) inspire readers to write a book in learning development and share their reflections on publishing “How to be a Learning Developer in Higher Education”. Nicola Grayson (University of Salford) reflects on facilitating a workshop at ALDcon23 titled “Moving through the Third Space: Being, becoming and progressing as a Learning Developer” with an important reminder for third-space communities to work together in navigating progression within the third space. Ian Johnson (University of Portsmouth) responds to an article in LoveLD issue 3 written by the Student Keynote Presenters at ALDcon23 and makes a call for action.

Jane McKay (Glasgow Caledonian University) is in the talking seat, discussing perfectionism, its risk and implications for learning developers. Julie Taylor (Manchester Metropolitan University) discusses the benefits of bringing movement into the learning development classroom. We also hear from some of the Communities of Practice within ALDinHE, with an invitation to get involved.

In this issue, we celebrate the work of Tom Burns and Sandra Sinfield and the #Take5 blog reaching 100. We share a new look on the ALDinHE website for Events and LearnHigher. We invite you submit your ideas on the future of event webinars (see page 2). Plus, news, events, a recap on University of Reading’s regional event, a look at ALDcon24, celebrations, books, new LearnHigher resources and lots more….
